2. Umaid Bhawan Palace: A Palace Born of Purpose

Historical Origins

Commissioned by Maharaja Umaid Singh in the 1930s, Umaid Bhawan Palace was built to provide employment during a prolonged drought and famine.

It took nearly 15 years (1928–1943) to complete, with over 2,000 workers employed during construction—a project described as both philanthropic and grandiose.

Highlights & Museum

Part of the palace remains the residence of the royal family, another is now a heritage hotel run by Taj, while a museum houses vintage clocks, royal memorabilia, and Maharajas’ classic cars—including a 1927 Rolls Royce.

  • National Visitors: ₹30 per adult, ₹10 (children 5–11)

  • Foreign Visitors: ₹100 per person

  • Timings: 10 am to 4:30 pm daily, year-round

3. Jaswant Thada: Marble Memorial of Love

History & Significance

Erected in 1899 and completed by 1906, Jaswant Thada is a white marble cenotaph built in memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II by his son, Maharaja Sardar Singh.
