When is the best time to visit Kedarnath?

The best time to visit Kedarnath is from May to June and September to October. During these months, the weather is pleasant, and the temple is open to visitors. The monsoon months (July and August) should be avoided due to the risk of landslides and roadblocks.

Do I need to register for the Kedarnath Yatra?

Yes, registration is mandatory for all pilgrims. You can register online through the Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra portal or at physical counters available in Haridwar, Rishikesh, and other key points.

How to Reach Kedarnath

Step 1: Reach Haridwar / Rishikesh / Dehradun

  • By Train: Haridwar Railway Station

  • By Air: Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun

  • By Bus/Car: State buses and private cabs available

Step 2: Travel to Gaurikund

From Haridwar/Rishikesh:

  • Private taxi: ₹4,000–₹6,000

  • Shared jeep/bus: ₹500–₹800

  • Overnight stay in Sonprayag or Gaurikund

Step 3: Trek or Fly to Kedarnath

  • Trek: 16–18 km from Gaurikund (6–10 hours)

  • Pony: ₹2,500–₹4,000 one way

  • Helicopter (Phata/Guptkashi/Sersi): ₹2,500–₹8,000 one way

Mandatory Registration for Kedarnath Yatra

Registration is compulsory. You can do it:

Bring a valid photo ID and health certificate if trekking

Stay in Kedarnath

Accommodation is limited but available in:

  • GMVN Guest Houses

  • Dharamshalas (Charitable lodges)

  • Tents and budget rooms

💸 Cost of Stay:

  • Budget tents: ₹500–₹800 per person

  • GMVN lodges: ₹1,000–₹2,500 per night (advance booking advised)

  • Helipad-area rooms: ₹2,000–₹3,500

Book early, especially during peak months (May & June).

Food Options in Kedarnath

There are no restaurants, only basic food stalls serving:

  • Rice, dal, roti, sabzi, khichdi, maggi, tea

  • Thali meals: ₹100–₹150

  • Snacks/tea: ₹20–₹50

  • Carry dry fruits, energy bars, and water bottles

Food is pure veg, and alcohol/non-veg is strictly prohibited.

Kedarnath Temple & Aarti Details

🛕 Darshan Timings:

  • Morning: 4:00 AM to 3:00 PM

  • Evening: 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM

🙏 Daily Aarti:

  • Morning Aarti (Mahabhishek): 4:00 AM – Entry by special ticket only

  • Evening Aarti: 6:00 PM – Open for all

  • The Bhog Aarti and Rudrabhishek Pooja can also be booked in advance.

Special Aarti Booking Cost: ₹1,700–₹3,500 (book through temple committee or GMVN)
